Influence

For my personal, I decided to talk about someone who has had a very big influence on my life. It was a hard decision that took me a while but I finally chose my grandpa.Last year in April my grandpa was diagnosed with cancer.  Now more than ever before I’m starting to realize just how much my grandpa influences me. Every since I could remember, my grandpa was there for me, and my family. He has always been known as the funny, joke telling, out going guy, known by everyone.  Some of the best traits a person could have. One of the best things about him is he is always in a good mood and makes the best of everything. He has a positive attitude that makes the room glow. He is the person who brings out the best in me.  He reminds me to make good decisions and to be the bigger person. One of the best things about my grandpa that has always struck me is that no matter who you are, even a complete stranger, he treats you like he’s known you for years.  My grandpa doesn’t meet a person without asking  their name, and getting to know them a little bit. To him, no matter who you are, you are important.  Always worth his time and interest.  He is also one of the most generous people I know, always willing to help anyone who needs it.  As my mom would say if it needed to be fixed, people would call grandpa. He would do anything in his will to help a person out.  For several Thanksgivings my grandpa  delivered a whole thanksgiving meal to  families who couldn’t afford one. He gives people something to be grateful for and has a good heart- amazing qualities in a person. My best memories have probably been riding on his tractor with him or spending family vacation time together. I could literally go on for days telling funny stories about our time together.Every time he leaves he reminds me to be a leader and not a follower.  He influences me to make the best decisions I can make. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without him in my life.  I feel especially lucky to have the special relationship I do with my grandpa and will continue to value it throughout my entire life.He often says he’s not sure what difference he’s made in the world, what legacy he leaves behind.  But I know the difference he’s made in me.  That is his legacy...
